We are sure that you the reader - having taken the time and trouble to search out and explore a Leopard Gecko website such as this, have at least some knowledge and understanding with regards to, and of, the wonderful morph of geckos that are known as Enigmas.
It is thought that to date, a percentage of possibly upto 20% of all Enigmas, express or at least have/carry, some degree of neurologicl disorder to either a lesser or greater extent. The ones that show such a disorder to a lesser extent, can often indicate it by such - normally non-descript - signs such as poor prey striking or the occaional tilted head. That is not to say, that these Enigmas are going to have any kind of lessened life span - or more importantly - decreased quality of life. Many Enigmas with mild problems live a perfectly normal, happy life and are treated as any other morph of Leopard Gecko. Unfortunately, in extreme cases, the neurological problems of a particular Enigma can be so severe so-as to manifest itself in such a way as to include perplexing habits such as circling when walking, constant `star gazing`, unwarranted aggressive behaviour, lack of appetite and a non ability to feed oneself.
Although many tests have been done, and are still being carried out, very little is still actually known about this particular morph. The neurolical problems that seem to affect some Enigmas will not be present in others, and recent tests and studies, have indicated that the basis of their problems is actually down to a kind of `malfunction` in them, that leads to certain parts of their brains being starved of particular nutrients and calcium - and this has an adverse affect of their motor neurons.
What we can assure anyone thinking of purchasing an Enigma morphed Leopard Gecko from us, is that none of our breeding Enigmas display any extreme symptoms or signs of neurological disorder. As a result of us refusing to breed problematic Enigmas, we hope to only produce Enigmas that do not have problems. However, the issues they face and often have ARE unpredicatable - Enigmas that have previously shown no signs of any kind of neurological disorder can, for whatever reason, suddenly display problems. In times of stress - such as moving home, being couriered and being introduced to other, strange Leopard Geckos, it is found that some Enigmas can temporarily display symptoms during such times. Most disapate, or calm down, when the leo has become settled. However, as with any living thing, this cannot be guaranteed. As said, the only thing that CAN be guaranteed, is that no Enigma that we release, will have been bred from issue showing parents - thus reducing the risks greatly. Anyone purchasing an Enigma from us will have every opportunity to see and handle the parents of the chosen Enigma, hopefully putting any concerns to rest.
We are very fair breeders, and only want the best for our leos and our customers - that`s why we check and monitor all the geckos we release. Any customer will have the opportunity to come and see any Enigma that they are interested in before they purchase, but we cannot - nor can any breeder - accept long term responsibilty of any leopard gecko that we sell.
If you wish to research the Enigmas, then this may help you with your decision, or you can talk to us about anything to do with them - we will answer all questions and queries with regards to our Enigmas and release with 100% honesty.
The thing to remember, is that at the end of the day, whether you purchase an Enigma from us or anyone else, the decision is entirely yours, and your responsibility. However, especially due to us insisting on holding back hatchling Enigmas longer than any other morph, the guarantee is that NO Enigma will be sold, if at any time upto and including the date of sale, it is showing any signs or symptoms of the Enigma disorder. We are also firm believers that the Enigma`s problems are made worse, and continued, by some people`s continued breeding of such specimens - that`s the main reason we only breed Enigmas that show no sign of problems, thus reducing the chances of any offspring showing issues greatly.
We have at our disposal a trusted courier service available for our customers. The service we use are a well established, trusted courier, who are fully insured and licensed. We will accept other forms of pick up such as other couriers and private reptile taxis - however, all other couriers are used at the buyers own risk and judgement.
Although there are possibly slightly cheaper courier options available, we thoroughly recommend the use of our own. No profit is made by us, but would always recommend them due to the first class, guaranteed service they offer. There are many reasons including heated vans, same day delivery (where possible), weekend and `out of hours` delivery options - all coupled with a superb `animal first` approach.
